The Department Manager - Microbiology will oversee day-to-day operations and on-time delivery of testing services of the Microbiology Department. As a Laboratory Manager and Leader, you will:
o Provide managerial leadership to the local department staff;
o Provide managerial leadership to the local Microbiology staff for validations and transition to production;
Communicate the goals and strategy of CCLS, the lab and the department;
o Manage all day-to-day delivery of testing services of the local department;
o Ensure testing quality and on-time delivery of testing services;
o Manage all non-production activities and obligations of the local department;
o Provide support, as required, to the Global Director and assists in the fulfillment of his/her responsibilities;
o Ensure that an adequate number of trained and competent staff is available to match the workload requirements of the department.
o Be responsible for ensuring client satisfaction;
o Participate in and supports client visits, audits and inquiries to ensure complete fulfillment of requests and interests. The Laboratory Manager will also: o Ensure quality and timely delivery of both production and non-production activities; o Monitor and reports performance and results against targets and global standards; o Ensure regulatory compliance within the local department;
o Be responsible for the departmental Quality Management Program and for on-time responses to quality issues (clients and internal audits, internal and external quality controls…) as required. o Coordinate departmental activities in support of other functional areas; o Assist director in the establishment of globally consistent production standards; o Support process improvement initiatives. o Recruit, train, develop and retain sufficient supervisory resources for the effective oversight of the local department operations; o Convert volume forecasts into specific personnel resource needs and works with the department director (or local associate director) and senior director operations to secure necessary and appropriate personnel in a timely manner; o Plan, schedule and monitor the technical training and development of local departmental staff; o Ensure an adequate level of appropriately trained staff is available and effectively assigned to meet the production and non-production requirements of the local department; o Evaluate personnel performance with the support of appropriate supervisors; o Be responsible for engaging staff and creating an attractive work environment. o Requires BS degree in Biology, Chemistry or other Life Science; or Medical Technology degree. o Prefer professional certification (ASCP) in area(s) of expertise. o Fluent in English; Command of French is a plus.
Requires 6 years experience in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory following clinical training, plus 2 years supervisory or management experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
