In this Animal Tech job you will:
•Clean feeders, water bottles, animal caging, and other items
•Clean and sanitize animal rooms or pens, hallways, stairways, and non-animal rooms
•Collects, records, and learns to review applicable hand recorded and computer generated data
•Operates and performs quality control checks on appropriate equipment
•Change animal racks and cages
•Receive new animals, set up housing, provide feed and water, and fill out animal arrival information
•Monitor animal room environmental conditions (e.g., lighting system, temperature, humidity, watering system, condition of animals)
•Set up housing and provide feed and water
•Assist other staff with technical procedures
•Dispense feed for use in animal studies
•Maintain equipment and log books
•Learns to observe animals for general health and general animal room standards
•Recognizes deviations from normal or expected outcomes based on known reference standards and makes recommendations to supervisor
•May provide guidance to less experienced staff
•Maintains well documented laboratory records
•Recognizes and documents unusual occurrences and notifies supervisor
•Reports all animal care concerns and becomes involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action when necessary
•May perform cage wash duties as needed
•May perform other related duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information

AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable

Overtime and weekend work is regularly scheduled (approximately monthly).

Mandatory immunizations and screening as required

May work with potentially hazardous substances, not limited to known/potential or teratogens or carcinogens and/or radiolabeled test materials

Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds; frequent lifting throughout the day; prolonged standing; extended hand manipulation, including but not limited to, grasping and holding

Work may require PPE (personal protective equipment)

Experience

Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals (ie rodents, canine, primates, rabbits, pigs, etc)
