Job Overview

Covance is seeking an Assistant Business Manager for its Global Immunology and Immunotoxicology Services Team in Madison, WI.


  1. Serves as project leader responsible for leading all efforts associated with upgrades and expansions involving Global I&I
  2. Develop and communicate business cases to support recommended changes to business practices, processes and procedures
  3. Play a critical role in all harmonization activities, the development of the operational plan and perform effective root cause analysis for any events needing investigation.
  4.  List the work-related aspects of the position
  5. Works with the department management to evaluate, cost, plan and schedule development and implementation activities that provide improvements to business operations.
  6. Works closely with other business units to ensure I&I resources are available for studies and to maximize revenue from available study rooms.
  7. Tracks and manages incoming workload Leads global and local project teams using project management and leadership skills.
  8. The incumbent will work with operational and process leaders to improve operational process and business systems & assure positive performance towards organizational KRI’s.
  9. Chairs project update meetings, assigns actions and monitors progress to establish deadlines.
  10. Creates project scopes, CEPs, work breakdown structures and Gantt charts to track project process.
  11. Works closely with I&I scientists to create, maintain and review templates for I&I studies.
  12. Tracks and updates metrics associated with I&I studies.List the client-related aspects of the position
  13. May work with clients to establish scheduling timelines based on their study requirements.


  • Principal Contacts 
  1. Internal:  Program Management, Client Services, Tox Operations, DLAM, Facilities and Business Management.  May include any level of individuals across Labs NA and throughout the Covance organization.
  2. External: Key clients, suppliers and external supporting businesses (CDI and CSS).
  3. External: Colleagues in Muenster, Harrogate, Greenfield and Shanghai


  • Travel Requirements:       Yes 
  1. Travel may be necessary to facilitate global projects and for continuing education purposes.
  2. Travel time estimated at 5-10% and may consist of several days at a time.



  • BS degree in related field. Experience may be substituted for education.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of CMS, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, Minitab and Project
  • Six Sigma greenbelt training preferred
  • Proven organization, observation, and problem solving skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of the organization
  • Outstanding communicator (written and verbal)
  • Skilled time management, planning and budgeting
  • Outstanding customer service and focus on client needs


  • 5-6 years of related experience.
