    Covance is searching for an Associate Director of Finance for our Clinical Development and Commercialization Services (CDCS) business. This unique opportunity which sits in our Raleigh location.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Lead and present monthly and quarterly financial reporting, analysis, and forecasted values
    • Manage local PFA team while ensuring Revenue is recorded timely and accurately each month under the new accounting standards (606)
    • Prepare project level actual versus budget/forecast variance analysis
    • Coordinate monthly forecasting of financial results (backlog)
    • Manage the Change Order process with collaboration with the Commercial Organization
    • Serve as a key contact point for interpretation of financial results with Project Mangers, Project Leads and TA Unit Heads
    • Review executed and proposed Contracts, Letter Agreements, Work Orders, Change Orders and other contract information as assigned
    • Prepare key reports on project cost rates, cost and expense forecasting (ETC), monthly utilization, resourcing requirements, headcount, backlog analysis, and/or gross profit for assigned areas
    • Lead preparation of profitability analysis
    • Conduct monthly variance analyses
    • Partner with business units to develop root cause analysis and gap closure plans
    • Provide status of financial condition of the business unit by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data
    • Conduct financial analyses independently or as a leader of a team
    • Develop insightful, decision-making analytics
    • Develop formal reporting packages as well as ad hoc financial analyses as required
    • Partner with business unit financial leadership to provide support for development of financial plans
    • Mentor and train individuals associated with the project finance function


    • BS/BA degree in Finance/Accounting
    • MBA and/or CPA preferred



    The successful candidate will have a minimum 10 years of relevant financial experience with a proven track record of leading a finance team and understanding complex sponsor contracts. It is expected that you will possess the following:

    • Thorough understanding of revenue recognition and the interface between external reporting, management reporting and budgeting/pricing
    • Motivated and dedicated leader with experience managing a Finance team
    • A hands-on, take-charge financial professional with strong analytical skills
    • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. Strong business and common sense
    • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills required. Experience with various business analytic tools desired
    • Strong presentation and communication skills required. Ability to collaborate across various financial and operational groups from senior management to staff
    • Strong problem solving and business partnering skills
